Tomorrowland, Electric Daisy Carnival, Ultra Music Festival, Dance Valley, Global Gathering, Creamfields. Europe, Asia, America, Australia. You name it, Markus Schulz has played it. The combined influence of his headlining DJ sets; Armada and Coldharbour label releases and highly prominent Global DJ Broadcast radio show have placed him at the forefront of the US EDM revolution. Now you can be part of that revolution too when you go for Future Sound Asia presents Markus Schulz on Friday 3rd May at KL Live @ Life Centre.
Born in Eschwege, central Germany, Markus emigrated to the United States. Age 13, his dance music awakening came during the grip of the country’s then-nascent breakdance scene. His early production and DJ career started when he caught his first production break in 1993 remixing Sagat’s ‘Why Is It? (F** Dat)’ for FFrr. Throughout the mid to late Nineties he continued to accrue acclaim with a range of releases on numerous luminary U.S. labels. Over the last 10 years Markus Schulz has crafted the individual musical identities of progressive, trance & house into his own unique hybrid sound.
His success has been reflected in weekly sets spun in front of tens of thousands, a Global DJ Broadcast listenership up in the millions and critically acclaimed albums, including ‘Do You Dream?’ and most recently ‘Scream’. Following several highly ranked positions, in 2008 Schulz broke into the # 10 of DJ Mag’s Top 100 chart. Since then Schulz has polled 4 consecutive years inside DJ Mag’s world’s top 10, has been regularly ranked in the FTB, Trance Addict and Trance Podium charts as the genre’s 2nd biggest spinner and won Best American DJ at the 2008 IDMAs. Against the backdrop of the EDM explosion in the States, in 2012 he came #1 in American dance music magazine DJ Times’ annual DJ poll and was given the title America’s Best DJ. On the 7th October 2012 he was presented with the award at a ceremony in Las Vegas, and received a gold plated mixer by its sponsors Pioneer. Playing over 150 gigs a year, he has become the busiest international DJ playing out of the United States.
Now in its sixth year, Schulz’s Global DJ Broadcast (GDJB) has continued to be a beacon for an always-growing throng of trance & progressive dance fans. Having begun life on Miami’s Party 93.1 station, it is now broadcast through DI.fm and Sirius/XM satellite, the Global DJ Broadcast site and over 50 other FM stations around the planet. Based on a regular format, the first show of each month is a two hour long mix from one of Schulz’s rolling World Tour gigs – ones that have of late included Medellin, Columbia, St Petersburg, Russia & Amnesia in Ibiza. Subsequent shows in the month feature Markus mixing his broad span pick of the current electronic dance music best for an hour (which includes the forum-voted Global Selection track of the week) followed by guest mixes from both established and up-and-coming DJs.
Recently Markus has also collaborated with Armin Van Buuren to produce the official anthem for the 600th episode of Armin’s world renowned weekly radio show, A State of Trance (ASOT). Markus and Armin’s track is called ‘The Expedition’ which incidentally is also the name of the ASOT 600 world tour in which Armin will travel and broadcast the show from select cities around the globe, including Kuala Lumpur on March 15. ‘The Expedition’ is a massive track, representing an ASOT world tour bigger and more advanced than Armin has ever done before – nothing less is expected from a collaboration of two of the biggest djs in trance today.
Sharing the privilege of opening for Markus Schulz will be Jochen Miller and local DJ stalwarts Phil K Lee and MisterAriffin.
